I'm doing my Booker long list read before they announce the short list in early September. So my brain is exhausted, but so far I've read:
The Lost Dog by Michelle de Kretser - Really didn't like it at all
A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz - loved it, it had some absolutely wonderful lines - in some ways his observations remind me of Pratchett, except in a non-fantasy world.
The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie - Absolutely beautiful language, with some lines about orphans and children and fairy tales that were magic. But doesn't hold up throughout.
Currently reading:
A Case of Exploding Mangoes by Mohammed Hanif - the best thing about this by far is the title, but I'm still very interested.
After I finish this, it's time for a little bit of a break and I'm torn between some epic fantasy or some nonfiction.
