Thanks for all your help, everyone. Alas, I haven't had any luck, and have just had to send the thing into Sony.
These guys are really going to have to step it up if they're going to take eReaders mainstream. They have to work! I wouldn't recommend anybody get one, as I've discovered so many people with similar problems.
Maybe next time a Kindle?
