It's a good idea to check each book before downloading. As you very rightly say, Australia and Canada have different copyright laws from the US, and many of the books on those sites will be perfectly legal for you to download. Sweden has a "life+70" copyright law, so you can legally download any book written by an author who died before 1st Jan 1942. (After 1st Jan 2013, this changes to 1st Jan 1943). This does mean that some of the books on PG Canada and Australia will not be legal for you to download (those whose authors died after 1st Jan 1942 (shortly 1943) ).
