I can see it as a "nice to have" - in my opinion - but the cost for a writing centric laptop seems excessive to me. I live in a fairly rural area and I can find wifi just about anywhere I can find cell service. (towns with populations below 3k)
What do you need it for? That is the question you need to ask to know whether it matters. In *my* case, if I have cell service my phone can be a hotspot - so there is no advantage to having 3g on the netbook - but its rare that I ever think to even use it.
This is my opinion, not a hard set rule of life.
