But, if it is done correctly, it can bring to the eBook reader the high-quality typesetting (paragraph shaping, indents, ligatures, line and word spacing...), graphics, equations, foreign letters, etc. that's usually only found in paper books.
I don't say PDF is perfect, it obviously has a serious lack in flexibility, but it's not necessarily something to blindly avoid.
