I find reading PDFs on my computer to be uncomfortable due to the cumbersome form factor of the laptops that I have owned. I find that I have a much easier time reading PDFs and making notes on my iPad. I am also able to use a stylus to make notes (something that I can't do on my laptop), which is very handy as my notes often involve diacritics that are a pain to type using a keyboard. It is small enough that I can slip it into my purse and use it while commuting as well, something that I couldn't do with a laptop. It has saved me a of time while writing my MA and PHD theses, and has also served as a very handy second screen for viewing reference material when typing on my laptop. My iPad was a purchase that was well worth the money spent.
