Every moment you spend wasting time on a tablet would be better spent reading a book or an ebook*.

Are you implying that reading a book doesn't count as entertainment?
After being a die-hard e-ink proponent for years, I am very pleased with my Nexus 7. I've had it for a few weeks, and I've spent more time with it reading ebooks than anything else so far. It does come in handy for the quick email read, some messaging, task lists/calendars and occasional web browsing. I use it at work as I travel from site to site. I don't really use it for movies; I'd much rather watch a movie on my HD TV anyway. Aside from ebooks (which are in essence "time wasters" and "entertainment") I use it for mostly productive purposes.
As far as reading goes, with a black background, light text and low backlight it's not all that bad. Certainly FAR better than the displays of yesteryear or my computer for reading. I'm looking forward to trying a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for the AMOLED screen.
