eBay speculators I assume. I've seen them do this in the past a lot with popular items that are difficult to get, especially around Xmas. I think it was the Sony PlayStation I or II that was released near Xmas a few years ago, but only a handful were available. Speculators stood in lines to buy them and bought as many as they could then put them on eBay at several times their sale price!

I also saw a lot of Sony PRS-950 eInk readers on eBay for ridiculous prices after speculators bought up the discontinued units and marked up the prices.
