To be honest, if everybody did it (especially at a single site) the value of the effort would diminish.
The Free Library has served many purposes since its founding but one of the bigger ones is building up the BAEN brand. For years and years they've built up a lot of goodwill for the publisher as well as the authors as well as promoting specific series. It makes *them* special.
