Star Wars and Star Trek both offer a different view of future ships. In Star Trek the ships tend to look new and shiny. Although there are some well-used ships, for the most part the ones we see are close to brand new and are kept that way. Plus, you rarely hear about used ships.

In Star Wars, the ships look like they are well used, more like our cars. One thing that struck me is the scene where The Millenium Falcon starts to malfuction and Han Solo hits something and it starts to work. Likewise is Princess Leia's comment to the effect that Solo's ship is a flying junkpile. I don't recall seeing that anywhere in Star Trek.
