That's not so bad then and isn't really like the special offers Kindles.... still a bit iffy of Waterstones to do this without making it clear. I'd go with HarryT's suggestion of contacting Amazon to see what they say first, but I'd also contact Waterstones and let them know you are unimpressed.
If you get no joy and are happy to jailbreak it, head over to the developers forum and consider asking about and possibly experimenting with the screensaver hack. Although if you have the latest firmware then you are probably stuck as Amazon have curtailed the jailbreaking ability with the latest firmware. Personally I'd just live with it though, but that's just me, too scared in case I break it!
