It just seems to be the Kindle that has this 'problem' with wide variations in the screens, it's not something you hear about with the Kobo Glo for example. It has it's own issues (bright pixels, light too bright on low setting), but on the whole, the quality of the light seems to be pretty uniform.

So possibly it's the capacitive touch screen of the Kindle that is causing issues that the infra red touch screen on the Glo isn't? Also, there will have been a lot more Kindles sold than Glos (I think?), plus the high expectations set by the launch of the Paperwhite, but even so, clearly Amazon is having more problems with quality control than Kobo.
