It is for sure in 1st release of 1.8, but I think it started with later (cca post June) 1.7 releases.

Turns out, it ha to do with Metadata Extraction - if you turn it off, it will not keep loading at the start.
This might actually be a
bug: if there has not been a change to the storage, metadata of EPUB/PDF files should should be extracted again!
