Actually, you can display NEW additional images, or a sequence of them, from your own startup scripts. You can even display an animated sequence, or completely overlay the entire boot images, with your own.

Rather than replacing existing stuff, just do your own boot animation from a startup script. You can use some native mode code, from one of my eink animation demos. See "newtrix", for example.
