The best way to handle LIT files these days is to download Calibre even if you do not have a Sony Reader of any kind.

use ConvertLIT to strp the DRM leaving you with a DRM free LIT file. Then use lit2oeb to convert the LIT to it's base components. It actually works better then ConvertLIT for malformed LIT files.
