The big trap is the paranoia for piracy from the publishers. When you try to protect/restrict your product too much, companies like Amazon end up with the power to control the market. Apple took advantage of the same fear the record labels had, and now it's one of the biggest online music retailers in the world. Apple also is very active in pricefixing E-books with publishers. I think there is some sort of antitrust refund coming up, but of course the damage is done.

A Kindle can cost 5$, I still would not buy it because I would never spend a penny on an Amazon or Apple product. It's up to the consumer to have some ethics regarding downloading/paying for stuff, not up to Amazon or Apple to ram it down our throats...while pricefixing and getting filthy rich from it.
Why anybody would buy a device that restricts you to DRM and such, and to buying all your products in 1 store, I'll never understand.
It's pretty clear that you buy a package deal when you buy a Kindle. With Epub, there is a widespread alternative available for crap like that, so we should not need consumer protection laws, we should be smart enough by ourselves. there are plenty of alternative E-readers.
For me the only problem is: give us a bit of User Comfort on those damn things!! :-)
