This is an excellent move by Sony.
I am not in USA so I can not benefit *directly* from their generous offer, but it is really a win, win, win move.
Very good Public Relations stunt.

1. They show that they do care about early adopters, about e-book readers and e-books in general
2. They will not get that many trade-in units, because PRS-500 can be sold on ebay for more than $100. Still, $100 is a VERY good offer IMHO.
3. They can sell refurbished PRS-500 that were traded-in, and I believe those units would sell like hot cakes for $149
4. They have silenced people that were clamouring about less-than-optimal display of A4 formated pdf files, lack of other DRMed formats, ...
