But since they were both bought from Amazon, on the same account and downloaded via wifi, I didn't think something as silly as a TOC would be out of sorts.
Older Kindles display books in Mobipocket format (the file extension doesn't matter - it may be ".azw", but it can still be a Mobipocket book). Newer Kindles use the much more capable "KF8" format, which can support a lot more complex formatting.

The publisher supplies both versions of the book to Amazon. When you download a book from Amazon, you get either the Mobi version of the book or the KF8 version, depending what device you download it to. So sending a book to a K3 doesn't necessarily get you exactly the same book as sending that same book to a PW.
