For anyone else with this same problem - There is no wireless option for connecting a Kindle Fire HD to Calibre AFAIK, the app 'Calibre Companion' is not compatible with this device (and according to the makers never likely to be either)
If anyone knows any other suitable way of addressing this problem (without having to remove most of my books) please share here.
