I have used it several months in a row with 6V, but recently changed to 4.5V since a little voice kept nagging me that I might be overdoing it in the long run. Most devices that run on batteries have some tolerance when it comes to voltages, since batteries do not keep the same voltage when they are discharged. This might not be true for charging electronics though, but undervolting should never be a problem (it either works or nothing happens).

You have just been lucky so far. The best thing to do is to toss this charger and get a true PSP charger. Just because the pug fits and it seems to work, doesn't mean it actually does. If you use an incorrect charger, you could be damaging the unit or causing a problem with the battery.
