It's related to two things. The model numbers Amazon originally gave their Kindles until they started naming them instead (up to Kindle 3, which was renamed the Kindle Keyboard when they released the basic Kindle (Kindle 4), which are the two you have). And also the firmware that they run, although that worked ok up until the release of the Kindle Paperwhite, as it uses a version of the 5.x firmware that the Kindle Touch also uses...

Kindle 1
Kindle 2
Kindle 3 - now Kindle Keyboard
Kindle 4 - either K4S or K4B depending on whether it's the original silver or the newer black version
Kindle 5 - Kindle Touch
Kindle 6 - Kindle Fire
Kindle PW

Oh, and I forgot there is also the Kindle DX (10" screen), which along with the K1 & K2, is no longer sold by Amazon (edit again, and neither is the Kindle Touch).
