If you do have a US billing address you're golden no matter where on the planet you may be sitting.
I've posted a similar thread in a Kindle forum and a lot of the responses I got were like yours, they said I can as long as the address used is a US address, doesn't matter if the credit card used is a non US they said. I then told myself I need more information so I did some 'googling' and found a thread like mine where a Brazilian guy have been downloading eBooks via the US Kindle store with success and then suddenly can't and another thread that contradicts this, found out that some people have been doing this for a long period of time and have never had a problem. Anyway, I'll be getting the Kindle Paperwhite tomorrow and will check on this myself.
