Glad you got it working, gary, I'm very happy for you.
However, I agree with Niluje, you don't need to do all that work. I basically upgraded my calibre as joehunt mentioned and I didn't need to do any of the other things you mentioned. I left the tag part blank, my mobi file is set to both, enable sharing is unchecked. That's it.
All of this is saved in my preferences for all new books added so I don't have to do it each time. For my existing library, I just highlighted them all and did a batch convert which took maybe 20 minutes for 600 books. (my computer is pretty fast)
