Halloween during a blackout in the ghetto was a trifle odd. Strange to see the flashlight beams of nervous mothers surveying the darkness for hidden muggers and deviants. Let's hope they didn't find any.
One plus: Because a number of my neighbors are Nuyorican, Cuban and Dominican, candle-lit Santerea shops stayed open on every third corner, which meant candles for everyone.
