Think of it this way: the owner of a DRMed book possesses a license to read the book on any Kindle she owns. Depending on the book, she is also entitled to lend (temporarily transfer) the license to read to another Kindle user. While the book is lent out, it cannot be read on the original purchaser's devices.

If Whispersynced true. I'm talking about transferring (side loading) a physical file between devices. I've always heard that each Kindle will receive via Whispersync a book file tied directly to that device and no other. In other words, a book file sent to your Kindle Touch cannot be side loaded to your Kindle Fire if it is protected with DRM.
