Nope they are not. The K4B is lighter in background and has very black text. The K4S is more grey background and the text isn't as black. There are several threads here with people who posts pics showing both units together. Right now the K4B has the best contrast of the Kindles being sold with the K3 coming in at a very close second.

I would love to see the new one.
Going to Petsmart today, next to a BB, so I am going to check again if they are putting them on display. Seeing one in the box would not help.
