Device: kindle paperwhite
I just tried the steps to restart the PW from the troubleshooting Amazon website, and it is now back to normal. I don't know why, as I already restarted the device twice (from the settings menu), and I even resat it to its default condition, and did not help. Now after those steps it is ok. Here are the step from http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...0#troubleshoot

Restart your Kindle Paperwhite

Restarting your device can resolve issues like a frozen screen or problems downloading content.

1. Press or slide and hold the power button for 20 seconds. After 6 to 8 seconds, the screen will go blank. This is normal. Continue to hold the power button.

2. After 20 seconds, release the power button. The charge indicator light will turn on after a few moments. If you have successfully restarted your Kindle, you'll see the start-up screen.
