So much to learn, especially when you don't know enough to know what questions to ask.
I currently have three Kindles, the K4 I bought from Amazon, the K3 I bought on eBay, and the K3 I bought on eBay with a broken screen and fixed.

From experience, I would guess that books that are downloaded from Amazon are registered to that particular device, and not your account. That explains why I can read books that were left on the used Kindles, but have problems reading some of the free books that I tried to copy from one to another using Calibre or Explorer. Is that correct?

Why would a free, Public Domain book have DRM on it? On SOME of the free books I got from Amazon, I get the message, "This item cannot be opened because it is licensed to a different user. Delete the item and download it from your Archived Items or purchase a copy from the Kindle Store."
