Amazon allows you to sideload. Apple does not. Still, I prefer not to be walled in by either. As do most people when they are given the choice. Trouble is that when you don't wall people in, you don't make as much money and it becomes more difficult to provide a compelling ecosystem. Although I think Google is doing OK.
