If sitting is bad for you, what about reading?

There is an article in the Guardian warning us against spending too much time sitting down. It looks like it can even be dangerous, as the following excerpt shows, " An Australian paper in the Archives of Internal Medicine of more than 200,000 people aged 45 or over found that those who sat for 11 or more hours a day had a 40% increase in risk of dying over the next three years, compared with those who sat for only four hours a day."
If reading is synonymous with sitting, isn't reading dangerous too?
Since the body can be in only one of 3 positions when not moving, namely standing, sitting and lying down, are the other two positions safer or not? Victor Hugo stood at his specially made desk when working on his books, maybe that was a good idea.
