Just did it and it worked. I tried a couple of times and all worked.
This is what I did: bookmarked page by dog-earing it, brought up menu. picked annotation,touched line menu on right hand side, selected add note, added note, saved, and then directly from annotation page hit home. Checked to see if note was retained and it was.
Maybe I am misunderstanding something.
I went back and tried the show on page route as you described above and again it worked. Notes were saved.
