Ive tried syncing the kindle, restarting the kindle, even tried resubscribing then unsubscribing again, but nothing seems to take the adds away. Anyone know what the deal is?

Time to call Kindle support. I've had alot of problems lately with Amazon servers syncing when I tell it to. You could just leave it there for awhile with WiFi on and see if it completes.
