Thanks for this tip (even if it is a repeat) - having ordered the "without ads" version I was a little annoyed that I still effectively got ads with book recommendations.

@twowheels: the main reason I have for wanting to turn it off is to see more of my library on the home screen.

One annoying thing about this tip though is that to actually get in to the store it's not just a simple matter of flipping a switch - you have to turn off the parental controls and enter a password, then to reactivate the tip (or deactivate the recomendations) you have to activate parental controls and enter the password twice. For me that's 12 taps - kind of a pain. Hopefully Amazon will update the firmware to allow this as a simple option to deactivate without the need for parental controls.
