What a great thread!

I'm looking for an Australian book from the early to mid-1980s. (Bought it as a paperback around that time, and I am pretty sure it was among the new releases then). It's a coming-of-age story involving a teenage boy and quite dramatic bushfires. Can't remember anything else, unfortunately, but I recall my own teenage self being really fascinated at the time.
