..."But, the HP TC1000 is a good, workhorse type tablet PC that allows reading in portrait or landscape, runs Windows XP, and can read all the formats the poster has mentioned. It is frequently available on eBay for less than $250, has a nice color screen, and the stylus is a very comfortable size for writing and highlighting.

I highly recommend it as a larger form factor ebook reader."...

Perhaps this is the better option. I will certainly find out. And, by "no proprietary formats", I meant that I'll not be forced to use a specific document type, or forced into buying products from a monopolistic source. Things like the IPod and its music, for example. I obviously was unclear on that.

Anyway, it seems, from the answers here, reading other forum posts in the meantime, and general research, that I might be better off with a tablet pc, of which I know little.

In any event, it appears I've wasted the time of responders, and apologize. From what I"ve been able to learn in the last few days, it doesn't appear that I'll be buying an EReader any time soon.

Thanks anyway, folks, and those who said I didn't know what I wanted were correct. But now, I realize I DON'T want any of the present EReaders out there. They will not meet mine requirements.

So, thanks anyway; doesn't appear I'll bother you again.
