The issue isn't who wrote them where but rather who publishes them.
B&N hasn't sold ebooks outside the US because their publisher deals only involved US retailing rights. Now that they are selling ebooks in the UK they have to secure deaals with UK publishers.
So, what they will sell in the UK is what UK publishers carry.
