Ebay's own, non-sniper.

I haven't been active at ebay for quite a while, but I always simply entered the absolute maximum amount that I was really willing to pay, way before the auction ended, and then didn't bother to change it (or even check the auction) anymore - I simply waited for the outcome. Most of the time it worked - in particular *because* "snipers" don't know what my highest bid really was. And in the cases it didn't work - well, I wasn't willing to pay that much anyway (BTW, that's also a good way to keep that "Ah, just one more dollar doesn't hurt" syndrome under control - even though that's pretty much obsolete now anyway because of these automated sniper tools.)

I'm pretty sure that you would probably have won the auction if you had done that

EDIT: Why? Because those sniper programs only have so much time to try and outbid you, while your pre-established maximum will automatically outbid them at the very moment they place their bets - which means they need to check the result and bet again, with less and less time remaining, while you don't have to do anything.
