People upgrading their phone every generation represent a minority of Apple customers. They're principally targeting people on 2 year contracts and new users. That's why the criticisms of the tech press are always at such odds with sales figures.

Nice thing about having an iPhone is that its resale value is so high. Market value for an iPhone 4 on Craigslist? $390. For a Samsung Galaxy S? $200.
