What is more galling is that it isn't the world's thinnest smartphone, though that comment during the presentation and in the Apple news release has been picked up by the sloppier journalists and is spreading.

I note that on Apple's product page they only claim it as the thinnest iPhone yet, at its 7.6mm.

According Strategy Analytics there are at least three smart phones that are thinner than the iPhone at 7.6mm and they are the 7.1mm thick, the Motorola RAZR XT909, Motorola Droid RAZR and Motorola RAZR XT910.

However the world’s skinniest, slimmest, thinnest smartphone is in fact The Huawei Ascend P1 S was unveiled at t CES in January and measures 6.68mm with HSPA+ connection. Not only that it is more colorful than the iPhone 5 and comes in cherry blossom pink, white and black.him
There's also the Oppo Finder at 6.65mm, and the Fujutsu Arrows at 6.7mm.
