Oh sure ... plenty of towns in Texas without a good pub. But ... as I recall, San Diego had three great pubs (one of the Irish) in the downtown area.

The Irish pub is an actual Irish Pub. I mean, they dismantled some pub over there and rebuilt it over here. Sort of like with London Bridge being stuck over Lake Havasu.

Which makes me wonder .... why do Americans seem to have this "thing" for trying to transport pre-colonial culture over here?? Or European culture ... and it seems like it's usually really poorly done. (I mean, does anyone actually feel like they are in Paris at that hotel in Las Vegas??)

There's probably a good reason ... maybe something about trying to connect with our ancestry. But ... if we really did that, most of us would have to experience pretty near every culture on the planet to really understand our own background. Or ... is it just that Irish Pubs are this decade's "in" place to be????
