Okay, I've found a small library for interpreting BBCode to HTML that I can use. You might not like the final effect, though.

The HTML from BBCode ends up in the ebook on the title page, but the plugin always strips HTML from Summary before populating the calibre comments field. So the BBCode essentially gets stripped out. It works that way for all sites because otherwise you end up with some really nasty HTML in the comments from some sites.

As for fimfic characters: somewhere along the way, fimfic stopped putting the character names on the little character icons. You used to be able to hover and see the name--apparently you're just supposed to know now. I've kludged together a way to derive them from the image file names, but it may not be perfect. Let me know if you see any that aren't correct.
