thanks for feedback guys, but:
1. in the my kindle content folder I found only a small support file ( I forget the extension, maybe .apn- but no .azw file.
2. the fact that it worked after de/re-registering the app suggests no fault in amazon's copy of the file.

IF I knew more about what actually happens when you de-register+ delete local content, then re-register, then maybe I'd get further. I see a lot of obscure stuff in the APP data folder but cannot find out what it does. if there's some library content control in there & it get's out of sync with amazon servers, but gets reset on de-re register then maybe that is where the problem lies ? there is a STORAGE sub folder and a CACHE/DB subfolder in ..appdata/local/amazon/kindle...

K4PC is a pain to debug as amazon offer no help / no tools & there's little documentation of how it works. MY current theory is that K4PC will delete a book if it can't reconcile its DRM key which what is needed for the book i.e. if K4PC deduces that it's not "My" book ( just like it does if you delete a book from your amazon "owned" list and then re-sync ) - so I think that my registrations are messed up somehow at amazon. the book "arrives" in K4PC but there is somethign wrong with its credentials. But getting amazon to look in to that is another challenge...they say they have passed it on to their engineers; we'll see.

I asked if they had any knowledgebase of faults & solutions - it seems not

PS how can I search here for threads on Kindle for PC - the search engine ejects both for and PC
