I had a birthday recently, and Mum surprised me not only with a visit from down south, but with my late father's two fountain pens (I'm pretty sure he got them from his parents). They're not anything special; just a Parker 17 and a Parker VP. It's their emotional value that's through the roof though. I was just the day before about to click BUY on a couple of Lamy Safari pens, intended for use in a diary (I've bought the extra-large, buff-coloured Cahiers, Taylor. I'm rather inordinately enamoured with them in a way that might not be proper ). So, using Dad's pens to write in my diary (I'm thinking of addressing him in each entry, which will help give me focus, and feels apt)...I love it.

Cheers,
Marc
