The New Kindles -- Like'em or Hate'em?

I like the contrast of the new Paperwhite model, but I doubt I would trade in my K3 for this model. I like having the physical buttons. However, I'm going to head down to a locale retailer so I can see it for myself. Maybe the pretty white screen will win me over and I'll change my mind. On another note, there is still no support of ePub. That is dissapointing.

I would have to compare the 7" Kindle Fire with the Google Nexus 7. For me, a device that supports Jelly Bean and has access to the Google Play store has a huge advantage over one that doesn't. I like using Google Now and look forward to future advancements to Google Now and to Android that just won't be available on Amazon's non-standard Android version. I also just bought some NFC capable speakers to use with my phone. The Nexus 7 has NFC support, but the new Fire didn't mention support, so presumably it doesn't support it. No mention of GPS either -- bummer.

I would have to compare the 8.9" Kindle Fire to the Apple iPad. The new Fire is just too small. If I wanted a portable I'd go with the 7" model. If I want a good sized screen then 8.9" is just not cutting it. This is a huge fail in my opinion. Yes, it is a lot cheaper than the iPad, but Amazon could have designed a 10" version that was cheaper than an iPad. Bezos should stop listening to his wife --- size matters. Plus, the 8.9" version also has many of the same flaws as the 7" version.

How about the 4G LTE version at $499 plus $50 a year? You only get 250MB a month. What the hell are you going to stream with that? Forget movies and Pandora. This might actually be pretty cool with a better data plan. Then again, I pay $30 a month for unlimited data (5GB at 4G speed) and I can tether a device to my phone. Thus I don't need to pay an extra $200 to get the 4G LTE modem in my tablet.
