I'm happy with my Nexus 7. I've installed Kindle, Kobo and Amazon Kindle reader on it, a few games and lots of other apps. Hardly used a third of the 16gb storage, even with 300 books. I have unlocked it, so I can add more storage (have a 32 gb thumb drive which works with it) so I can put films etc on it.
I think where the Nexus 7 wins is that it has Android Jellybean straight out of the box, so you don't have to mess with it to get it how you want it (I unlocked it because I like to play, but you really don't have to).
I have a Kindle Keyboard, but I hardly ever use it any more. Have a Nook Touch, too, which I like, but keep it for long journeys and beach reading.
