I'm pretty sure many of the same people who insist they don't want or need anything better will be first in line to preorder the new improved eink reader when it finally arrives, then declaring they don't need anything better than THAT.

Yeah I find this argument against E Ink improvement rather strange. By the nature of technology, we should never be satisfied with the current norm. While the E Ink Pearl screen might be totally sufficient for reading purposes, there are still a lot of issues that should be resolved:
The background of E Ink screen is a light grey, often green-tinged color that looks nothing like the creamy whites of the printed page.
The text itself is often blurry and lacks vivid definition at small font settings (especially on Kobo displays for some reason).
The partial refresh feature causes very noticeable ghosting, and even when it is set to refresh every page, ghosting can still be a problem. I wonder if DarkScribe has considered this point. The new Kindle Touch is a ghosting nightmare.
All of these things should be remedied by an update that is sorely needed.
