The book file started out as a MOBI file. Who knows what file it REALLY started out as though.
I loaded it into Calibre and noticed the cover was all messed up and I took the action I described in the original post. That still didn't work as the cover I selected didn't show up. Well I then went in and did the MOBI to MOBI conversion and the new cover showed up fine. Now I don't know what will happen when I load it onto my Kindle Fire, I'll see soon enough though.
