Just a side bit of fun stuff: I worked for a Mountaineering/Sporting goods shop back in the early 70's... well before the "Pet Rock" phenomenon. The owner sent me down to the creek to bring back a bucket of little round stream stones, about an inch or so around. He went to a local print shop and had little stickers printed that said "Made in Vermont" and had me stick them on the side of each stone. He placed the bucket next to the cash register and stuck an Index card on a stick that said "Genuine Vermont Rocks - 25¢!" I can't tell you how many times I had to go back to that stream and get more rocks, while the shop owner laughed himself all the way to the bank! I always wondered if the person responsible for the 'real' marketing job of "Pet Rocks" got his idea right there?
