My best reccommendatio is Robert K. Tanebaum's Butch Karp Marlene Ciampi series.

Not primarily romantic but sufficientromance, with lead and supporting characters alll strong and mostly likeable and believable.

Lots of variety in each with usually more than one plotline. can be read stand-alone

Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe books are good relaxing reading. Sraightforward crime-solving interspersed with a lot of amusing parts. Generally less than 200 pages (pb) with many volumes containing three seperate complete mystery stories.

Both should be mainly available as library ebooks and paperbacks.
