A rice sock really shouldn't require time coordination. If you fill a sock with rice & tie off the top, you can re-use it again and again and again. (In case making them was the part the took time.) I use a pair of socks filled with rice in the winter - 60-90 seconds in the microwave per sock. I only change out the rice once a year. [Then I keep the used rice in a tin, for use as an abrasive while washing out drinking bottles.]
If warming the rice sock is too much effort, that's another issue! P.S. I would do 30 seconds for a baby. 60-90 seconds is for a person old enough to know when it is too hot.
